Common Dental Issues & Services
One of the most common issues patients face is gingivitis, which represents the earliest stage of gum disease. If it’s caught early, it can be successfully treated. If not, it can advance to a more serious stage called periodontitis, which can cause gum shrinkage and tooth loss. To prevent these and other common issues, it’s important to schedule regular dental examinations and cleanings so we can remove plaque and tartar and use fluoride treatments to strengthen enamel and fight off harmful bacteria.
Other routine issues include cavities and tooth decay. Sealants can protect against tooth decay and cavities by preventing food and bacteria from getting into small grooves located on hard-to-reach teeth, and fillings are used to restore these teeth when cavities do occur. It’s always our goal to keep the natural tooth, but if one is too damaged for treatment, we may perform an extraction.

We also see patients for a variety of other common problems, such as temporomandibular joint (TMJ) syndrome, which causes snoring and chronic pain in the skull and lower jawbone, and is typically caused by issues associated with the muscles and tissues in the mouth and throat.
If you’re a sports enthusiast, we can provide mouthguards to protect your teeth and gums during sports and other physical activities, as well as nightguards, which help protect your teeth from excessive grinding and clenching during the night.
Finally, we offer oral cancer screenings and recommend that patients have this done twice per year.
