When you receive a bridge, it literally “bridges” the gap and fills the space where one or more adult teeth are missing. It consists of two more crowns that cover the natural teeth on either side of the gap and then false teeth in between to close any gaps. Bridges can be made from porcelain, gold, alloys or a combination of these materials.

Dental Bridges in Canandaigua, NY
The Process
Creating and installing a bridge usually takes two appointments. During the first visit, the “anchor” teeth are prepared by getting them ready to receive crowns. A mold of the area is also taken so that the false tooth can be shaped to match. You’ll receive a temporary bridge while the permanent one is being created in a lab. Once the bridge is ready, you’ll return for another visit to have the temporary bridge replaced with the permanent one. Several subsequent visits might be necessary to fine-tune bite and fit.
All you need to know about dental bridges
Bridges are customized in size, shape and color to create a natural look, but its success depends on the strength of the surrounding teeth, health of the gums and stability of the bone to which it’s attached. It’s another very important reason to keep your existing teeth, gums, and jaw healthy and strong.
A bridge can serve multiple purposes, such as replacing missing teeth, alleviating stress on your bite, and even helping to maintain the shape of your face. They also can help restore the ability to chew and speak properly and keep your remaining natural teeth from drifting over.
