Dental Bonding in Canandaigua, NY

During dental bonding, a resin filling is “bonded” onto a tooth that’s slightly chipped, discolored or crooked in order to improve its appearance. Bonding can also be used to fill in large gaps between teeth (as opposed to wearing braces or other orthodontics.) It’s considered a conservative treatment and doesn’t usually require anesthesia.

How does dental bonding work?

Bonding works by placing the resin directly on top of existing teeth. The doctor will prep the tooth by using a roughing gel to etch the existing enamel surface as well as a conditioning treatment designed to help the material stick to the tooth. From there, the resin is applied and molded into shape. It’s then hardened using a dental UV light, polished and buffed to a natural shine. The resin is customized to match the color and appearance of your other, natural teeth for a natural look.

Other options for dental bonding

Dental bonding can also be used instead of amalgam fillings in order to fill cavities. It’s a popular option for many patients because the white color of the bonding is much less noticeable than its silver counterpart. Bonding fillings can be used on front and back teeth, depending on the location and extent of tooth decay.

Bonding offers patients a fix that is minimally invasive, affordable, fast and effective, and that can usually be completed in one visit to our office. However, it’s easier to break than other cosmetic treatments — like porcelain veneers — and can stain over time. However, bonding can generally be easily patched or repaired in one visit. If you experience problems, call your doctor and schedule an appointment.
